NURE Confirms High Scientific Status in State Evaluation for Engineering and Technology

In 2025, Kharkiv National University of Radio Electronics once again demonstrated its strong scientific potential: based on the results of the state evaluation, the University received Category “A” in the “Engineering and Technology” field. This recognition confirms that our University is among the leaders in engineering science and technology.

In this field, NURE ranked 11th out of 143 higher education institutions and research organizations that took part in the evaluation, and 6th specifically among higher education institutions.

The official announcement of the evaluation results took place on October 2, 2025, in Odesa at Odesa I. I. Mechnikov National University during an event organized by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, where the results for the “Natural Sciences and Mathematics” and “Engineering and Technology” fields were presented. The presentation was attended by representatives of leading universities and research institutions of Ukraine that received Category A in these two fields, representatives of HEIs and research institutes from the southern region of Ukraine, government officials, international partners, and the media.

Participants were welcomed by Denys Kurbatov, Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine; Viacheslav Truba, Rector of Odesa I. I. Mechnikov National University; as well as representatives of local authorities and the European Union.

A total of 282 research organizations and universities of Ukraine applied for the evaluation in these two fields. During the assessment, more than 173,000 records in the URIS system were processed and verified, about 900 expert reviews were conducted, and nearly 2,000 descriptions of scientific impact were analyzed. Each institution was assigned to a category (A, B, C, D) reflecting its level of scientific effectiveness, innovation impact, and international activity.

Starting in 2026, the results of the evaluation will serve as the basis for introducing a new model of research funding in Ukraine: additional baseline funding for five years, taking into account performance results, along with competitive funding in narrowly defined priority areas. In addition, the evaluation outcomes will influence the classification of higher education institutions, the allocation of doctoral and postgraduate positions, and access to international programs, including World Bank projects.

Receiving Category “A” in the Engineering and Technology field is a major breakthrough for our University. It signifies recognition of our high level of publication activity, scientific impact, international collaboration, and the ability to translate research results into practical achievements. Under these conditions, NURE will have significant advantages in accessing state research funding, participating in competitions, and implementing large-scale projects at both the national and international levels.

This achievement is not just a set of ranking figures—it is an impetus for a new stage: supporting early-career researchers, strengthening research infrastructure, actively entering grant programs, and expanding the University’s role as a center of scientific and technological innovation.
