POSTGRADUATE STUDENT OF THE Design Automation Departmen VICTORIA SEMERENSKA TOOK PART IN THE SWEDISH PROJECT CAFU
The main aim of this project is to equip Ukrainian young adults in education with relevant competencies that complement their studies, creating capacity for а holistic impact on post-war Ukraine, which aligns with EU standards and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs).
This program brought 30 of 200 Ukrainian students and young educators to Uppsala and Stockholm, Sweden, for an intensive, insightful week (28 Oct 2024 –1 Nov 2024) of learning and exchange.
Viktoriia is excited to share highlights from the study visit within the Competence Aid for Ukraine (CAFU) project – a collaborative initiative of Sustainability InnoCenter in partnership with Folkuniversitetet Uppsala:
“During the week, we had the opportunity to attend interesting lectures at the Folkuniversitetet building, where teachers talked about medical education, the system of general and higher vocational education in Sweden, the features of waste management and modern environmental solutions. In addition, we listened to a lecture on project management, where we learned about Swedish approaches to organizing work and implementing innovative ideas.
We also had the opportunity to explore the culture and urban infrastructure of Sweden during excursions to Uppsala and Stockholm. Our participation in the Norra Djurgårdsstaden project was especially interesting – one of the largest ecological urban projects in Stockholm, where innovations in the field of energy efficiency, sustainable transport, water and waste management are being implemented. It combines urban planning, industry and culture, demonstrating an integrated approach to sustainable development.
An interesting experience was a visit to the Sustainability InnoCenter in Uppsala, where we met teams that were already working on projects for the benefit of Sweden. They shared their experiences and gave us valuable advice on developing our own initiatives.
We also visited Uppsala Kommun, where they showed us successfully implemented municipal projects. It was very useful to learn how, even with minimal resources, you can create solutions that bring maximum benefit to the community.
In addition to the official part, our trip was filled with informal meetings and discussions. The lecturers not only gave lectures but also actively communicated with us outside the educational process, shared personal stories, and advised us on how to develop our own initiatives and create useful projects. We got acquainted with Swedish cuisine and the favorite places of the teachers and had the opportunity to establish contacts with other students and teachers, which opened prospects for future cooperation.
Every day of the study visit helped us not only to better understand the culture of Sweden but also to see how an unconventional approach can help find new solutions to familiar problems.
Thank you to the organizers for the wonderful opportunity, and to all participants for sharing experience, support and inspiration!”
The Design Automation Department is proud of its post-graduate students who strive to develop and innovate! We wish Viktoriia new achievements and success in future projects!
