The celebrations continued at the Faculty of Computer Engineering and Information Technology (CEIT), where first-year students experienced a special atmosphere of faculty unity, met with the dean’s office, and learned about their first steps in university life.

Afterward, the students got acquainted with the Design Automation Department (DAD) and their academic advisors.

For Kharkiv National University of Radio Electronics, this is a great and painful loss. Volodymyr Ivanovych was one of those people whose authority was built over decades – through scientific achievements, integrity, the strength of his personality, responsibility for the University, and daily work for its development. He was known and deeply respected by several generations of NURE students, lecturers, researchers and staff.

In 1978, Volodymyr Ivanovych graduated from Kharkiv Institute of Radio Electronics with a degree in Automated Control Systems. In 1985, he received the degree of Candidate of Technical Sciences, and in 1996 – Doctor of Technical Sciences. Since 1997, he had worked as a professor at NURE. A special place in the history of the University belongs to the years of his service as Dean of the Faculty of Computer Engineering and Control – from 2003 to 2017. Afterwards, he continued his scientific and educational activities as Professor of the Design Automation Department.

Volodymyr Ivanovych was a scientist of remarkable stature. His research interests included technologies for the synthesis and analysis of digital systems-on-chip, testing and verification of software and hardware components, associative computing structures, intelligent cloud technologies, brain-inspired and quantum computing processes. His scientific legacy comprises around 600 publications.

However, the true stature of a scientist is measured by far more than the number of publications. Volodymyr Ivanovych established and developed his own scientific school, mentored researchers, and passed on to them not only knowledge, but also a distinctive approach to science – demanding, bold and result-oriented. Under his scientific leadership, a strong academic school of Doctors and Candidates of Sciences was formed.

Professor Volodymyr Ivanovych Hahanov also played a significant role in the international scientific community. Since 2003, he chaired the annual IEEE East-West Design & Test Symposium, served on the editorial boards of international scientific journals, as well as on the organizing and programme committees of international conferences. He was a member of the IEEE Computer Society, held the statuses of Senior Member and Golden Core Member, collaborated with international technology companies, managed international projects, including TEMPUS, and led and participated in dozens of research projects.

His professional career was recognised with numerous awards and distinctions. Among them were the title “Excellence in Education of Ukraine”, IEEE Computer Society awards, the Computer Society Outstanding Contribution Award, the Medal “For Scientific Achievements”, distinctions for scientific and organisational accomplishments, as well as recognition from the city of Kharkiv and the professional community.

Yet for the University, Volodymyr Ivanovych was far more than a list of positions, academic degrees, publications and awards. He was one of the defining figures of NURE.

He was a person with whom an entire era in the development of the Faculty of Computer Engineering and Control, the University’s scientific schools, international cooperation, and the education of generations of specialists is associated. A person of strong character, with his own vision of science and the University, and with high standards for himself and for others. His opinion was listened to. His position was known. He was respected.

People like him leave behind not only scientific works, an established scientific school, and trained Doctors and Candidates of Sciences. They leave something much greater – the memory of the University itself. It lives on in the work of his students and colleagues, in the scientific traditions he established, in the faculty to which he devoted many years of his life, and in the achievements of those whom he taught, supported and guided.

The Rectorate, the Academic Council and the entire community of Kharkiv National University of Radio Electronics express their deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of Volodymyr Ivanovych, as well as to his friends and colleagues.

May the memory of Volodymyr Ivanovych Hahanov be eternal.
His name will forever remain in the history of Kharkiv National University of Radio Electronics.

As part of her PhD research in Computer Engineering, Nataliya presented her research entitled “Vector Logic Modeling for Fault Simulation.” Her research focuses on vector-logic and graph-based approaches to modeling, simulation, and fault analysis of digital systems, with the goal of developing more efficient methods for understanding system behavior and identifying fault transitions.

Participation in DAC 2026 was a valuable opportunity not only to present her research to an international community of researchers, engineers, and industry professionals, but also to explore the latest developments shaping the future of computer engineering and electronic design.

Of particular interest were presentations and discussions on the design and manufacturing of advanced processors and chips developed for AI applications, as well as emerging approaches to hardware security. It was especially valuable to learn about technologies and methods designed to protect modern AI hardware from unauthorized access, malicious modifications, unauthorized reprogramming, hardware vulnerabilities, and potential hardware backdoors.

The conference provided an opportunity to gain insight into new processor architectures, advanced chip-design methodologies, semiconductor manufacturing technologies, verification and testing approaches, and innovative hardware-security solutions. These developments demonstrate how closely performance, reliability, testing, and security are becoming interconnected in the development of next-generation AI hardware.

The knowledge, ideas, and professional connections gained at DAC 2026 will contribute to the further development of Nataliya’s research and may also provide valuable perspectives for teaching and academic activities in Computer Engineering.

Nataliya would like to express her deepest gratitude to her academic supervisor, Professor V.I. Hahanov, for his scientific guidance, continuous support, encouragement, and many years of mentorship. His vision, knowledge, and dedication to research have played an important role in shaping her work and helping her reach this important milestone in her PhD journey.

She is also sincerely grateful to the Design Automation Department and its Head, Professor Svitlana Viktorivna Chumachenko, for their continued support, encouragement, and commitment to creating an academic environment that promotes research, innovation, and professional growth. The support of the Department and its faculty throughout her research journey has been invaluable.

It is a great honor for Nataliya to represent DAD and her university at an international conference such as DAC 2026 and to contribute to the global exchange of knowledge in computer engineering, electronic design automation, AI hardware, and hardware security.

Participation in international scientific conferences plays a key role in the implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), primarily SDG 17 (“Partnership for Sustainable Development”), as well as tasks related to the development of science, education and innovation (SDG 4 and SDG 9).

It presents a disruptive theory focused on processor-free in-memory computing based on read-write transactions on logical vector. The book contains 22 chapters, which are structurally divided into 4 parts:

• Theory of Vector-Logic Computing;
• Vector-Logic Design and Test Computing;
• Vector-Logic Intelligent Computing;
• Vector-Logic Social Computing.

The engineering of the proposed innovations in the book is represented by original mechanisms (model-algorithm), implemented into cloud-services.

The pre-press preparation of the publication took about two years. Initially, the manuscript contained over 1000 pages, but at the publisher’s initiative, the format was changed to an enlarged two-column layout. This made it possible to optimize the volume, making the book more convenient for reading and binding.

This impressive scientific work is the result of more than 20 years of research by the author. As a development of his scientific school, several dissertations on this topic are expected to be defended by postgraduate students of the Design Automation Department under the supervision of Professor Vladimir Hahanov.

Meet my startup — Testinel

I have been in test automation for many, many years. I initially started my professional career as a tester (hello, Marek Novak!), and later, as the head of an IT company, I implemented autotests to ensure our developments were reliable.

There are many problems with automation. One of the global ones is that it is a somewhat underserved market; meaning, for an average backend developer there are 100 tools, while for an automation engineer, there are almost zero.

The motivation behind creating this tool is to reduce the time engineers spend fixing errors in autotests and to lower the entry barrier for automation engineers.

According to the NURE order dated July 17, 2026, Valentyn has successfully completed the “Computer Engineering” educational and scientific program in the specialty 123 “Computer Engineering”. Following the brilliant defense of his dissertation, and by the decision of the specialized academic council on June 30, 2026, he was officially awarded the degree of Doctor of Philosophy and the qualification of Doctor of Philosophy in Computer Engineering.

We are proud that Valentyn pursued his higher education at our department, demonstrating a high level of preparation and dedication to science.

We congratulate the young scientist on this significant achievement! We wish him to never stop there, to generate new innovative ideas, successfully implement his research, and build a brilliant career in the IT field!

Head of the APOT Department, Professor Svitlana Chumachenko, and Associate Professor of the Design Automation Department, Daria Rakhlis, successfully completed the Prof2IT course “Digital Transformation of Professional Activity” (May 6, 2026 – June 18, 2026). The course is implemented with the support of the Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine, Eastern Ukraine EDIH, the Tech Synergy Alliance, and the WINWIN EdTech Center of Excellence. By completing the course, they confirmed a high level of readiness to integrate innovative technologies into educational activities.

The Head of the Department, Svitlana Chumachenko, also participated in the webinar “Education Quality 4.0: How Digital Tools Transform Internal Quality Assurance Systems of Educational Institutions” (April 28, 2026) as part of the Tech Edu Up project. This event was organized by the Kharkiv IT Cluster in collaboration with the National Agency for Higher Education Quality Assurance (amounting to 0.1 ECTS credits / 3 academic hours). During the webinar, she enhanced her skills in using digital tools to modernize education quality systems, apply data-driven approaches, and analyze digital solutions.

We congratulate our colleagues on the successful completion of their training! The acquired knowledge and skills will be actively implemented into the educational process to improve the quality of student training at the Design Automation Department.

This achievement is the result of the daily work of the entire university community, as the ranking summarizes the university’s positions in three national rankings at once: “Top 200 Ukraine”, “Scopus”, and “NMT Score for Contract-Based Admission”. According to the final score, NURE ranked 10th among the technical universities of the country, confirming its status as one of the leaders in engineering education.

The university demonstrates well-balanced results, which indicate a high level of trust in NURE’s scientific schools and a significant contribution to science, particularly in the fields of radio electronics, information technology, and computer science.

Despite the war, NURE continues to maintain a full-fledged educational and scientific life: students study here, research is conducted, and the Admissions Committee is actively working with future applicants.
